Big Data. You might think the term belongs to tech geeks, engineers or math aficionados, but it actually impacts you on a daily basis, whether you know it or not.
For proof, consider this: every minute of every day we send 204 million emails, generate 1.8 million Facebook likes, send 278,000 tweets and upload 200,000 photos to Facebook; around 100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute and it would take around 15 years to watch every video uploaded by users in one day; and every two days we create as much information (i.e. data) as we did from the beginning of time until 2003.
Needless to say, data is everywhere and has played a monumental role in changing how we send and receive information, in addition to altering our lifestyles and work productivity through mobiles apps, web applications, software platforms and more.
Because of the proliferation and exchange of data on a daily basis, the need for efficient databases and database management systems has become increasingly important. After all, each piece of data being created must “live” or be stored somewhere. The challenge, however, is when the collection of data is so large that it becomes difficult to process, retrieve, analyze and store (think: the Facebooks, Amazons and Verizons of the world).
That’s where Treehouse Technology Group comes in. We specialize in creating customized data-driven web applications and database systems that help companies improve their operational efficiency.
As the statistics above suggest, each one of us uses data. But, the question is: are we using, curating, storing, retrieving and analyzing it effectively?
